The Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has said, he and other Nigerian governors last week stormed the city of Kigali, Rwanda to participate at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the United Nations Development Programme’s Executive Leadership Retreat.

The retreat was said to have highlighted some of the workable solutions that could be adopted in Nigeria, as it navigates through the current economic, environmental, and political challenges, with a primary focus on sustainable growth.

According to gov. Makinde’s brief, ” We were in Kigali for the Executive Leadership Retreat organized by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the United Nations Development Programme for Governors at the invitation of His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda.

The three-day retreat which was held on 24-26 August, 2023 was themed ‘Reimagining Leadership in a Fast-Changing World’. Our discussions at the retreat equipped us with adaptive leadership strategies and identifying pathways to effective governance and nationwide sustainable development.

In my capacity as the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), I signed the memorandum of understanding between the NGF and the United Nations Development Programme to institutionalize the retreat which will now be held regularly, and explore other thematic areas” he added.

Governor Makinde who came back to Nigeria over the weekend is expected to commission the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery- SAfER this week before he again embarks on a long foreign trip.
